Philadelphia Eagles rookie CB Quinyon Mitchell was laser-focused before the Cowboys game

Quinyon Mitchell was a saving grace for the Philadelphia Eagles cornerback room. The Eagles were fortunate to get Mitchell at No. 22 overall, but few could have predicted the rookie would have this impact on the secondary in the first half of the season.

Opposing quarterbacks targeting Mitchell have completed 51.2% of their passes for 277 yards with a 57.3 passer rating. Mitchell has not allowed a touchdown or an interception in 283 coverage snaps.

Mitchell is aware that he hasn’t given up a touchdown yet, along with the other impressive numbers he’s put up.

“I don’t pay attention, but I’m on social media, so it would be hard not to see it,” Mitchell said. “But I try not to let that bother me. I just want to stay in the moment and keep working. I feel like I have to get better every day.”

Mitchell is a talker on the field, but a student the other six days of the week. He lets the statistics speak for themselves; being targeted five times in the last two games is a sign of respect.

“Every week I’m just the same, whether I’m competing against CeeDee Lamb, Ja’Marr Chase or whoever,” Mitchell said. “My preparation and how I approach training and the match will always be the same, no matter who I play against.”

While Mitchell is taking an even approach, it was interesting that the rookie cornerback revealed that he is actually on social media. Mitchell does have an X-handle, formerly Twitter, but has never posted. His timeline is just full of reposts, but he does use the platform.

“I don’t pay attention to it,” Mitchell said. “I just scroll by and stay locked in so I can get better every day.”

Don’t expect Mitchell to buy into his own hype, or any hype for that matter. Don’t forget, the Eagles play the Cowboys this week – Mitchell’s first taste of the rivalry.

“It will be exciting, but I look at everything as a normal game,” Mitchell said. “Just keep the same energy, the same preparation, but we know it’s a big game. These games count as two, so we’re going to prepare and finish.”
