Reported gunshots temporarily close Sky Harbor Terminal 4 security checkpoint

Phoenix police responded to a reported shooting at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport on Wednesday evening as some travelers were expected to return or leave late for Christmas celebrations.

Airport officials said the report of gunshots came just after 9:40 p.m. at the airport’s Terminal 4.

Phoenix police tweeted that officers are “investigating a shooting that occurred at @PHXSkyHarbor.” No suspects are being sought and airport operations have resumed, the tweet said.

“The Terminal 4A security checkpoint was temporarily closed and PHX Sky Train operations were halted at Terminal 4 as a precaution,” airport spokesperson Eric Everts said in an emailed statement.

Everts did not say whether anyone was injured, and there were TV news reports of yellow crime scenes around the terminal.

“The incident has been resolved and operations have returned to normal. We recommend that you contact the police for additional information,” Everts said in the statement.

The Phoenix Fire Department would not comment on the situation. But Fire Chief Rob McDade said the Phoenix Police Department would be the lead agency.
