An Ohio officer was fired after being accused of having sex with a Kroger employee while on special duty

An Ohio police officer was fired this week after being accused of having consensual sex with a Kroger employee while on special duty.

Robert Spann, a former Columbus Division of Police officer, was on special duty at Kroger at the time of the incident involving the store employee. our news partners at WBNS-10 TV reported.

According to Police Chief Elaine Bryant, surveillance cameras at the store captured the two several times.

Even though Spann was on special duty, Bryant said he still had to follow the policies and expected behavior of a Columbus police officer.

“During these incidents he was wearing the Columbus Division police uniform,” she said.

The incident was reported to the inspector general by Kroger management. Those at Kroger decided not to pursue this case for criminal investigation, Bryant said.

“Whether an officer is on duty and paid by the taxpayers of Columbus or by a private special service, they represent this division and are expected to conduct themselves accordingly. Officer Spann’s conduct violated his oath and his duty to serve and brought shame to the Police Division,” said Columbus Public Safety Director Kate Pishotti. “His inappropriate behavior while in uniform, even though he was paid privately, neglected his responsibilities. The type of behavior on display here is unacceptable and will not be tolerated.”
