MINNEAPOLIS— You can expect a scorching Father’s Day weekend, followed by more storms late next week.

An extreme heat warning has already been issued for Sunday from 1:00 PM to 9:00 PM, when heat is expected to reach nearly 100 degrees.

WCCO meteorologist Adam Del Rosso says it is possible the NEXT Weather team will issue a NEXT Weather Alert due to the extreme heat and humidity expected on Sunday.

Showers in the south will continue to move north this morning as an approaching warm front moves in. However, residents of southern Minnesota can expect heavier rain showers this afternoon and evening.

Some storms may produce isolated ponding/flash flooding of 1-2 inches, along with wind and hail.

The lack of sun will keep temperatures in the 70s, and once that warm front is north of us tomorrow, rain chances for Father’s Day will decrease.

The chance of storms increases again on Monday as the cold tries to penetrate, but retreats north because a warm front is still in the area on Tuesday and Wednesday. This will maintain daily storm chances through mid-week, but there will also be some dry spells.

The heat and humidity will also remain steady, with highs in the mid-80s through Tuesday, and we hope to dry out even more by the end of the week with more seasonal temperatures closer to 80°.
