A Georgia police department is mourning the death of a dispatcher who was struck and killed by a car.
Sparta police announced on September 12 that Mary Jones was struck and killed by a driver just after midnight on Thursday as she tried to load belongings into a trailer along Interstate 95 near Edgewood Avenue in Jacksonville.
According to Florida Highway Patrol officials, the driver suspected of killing Jones drove away after hitting her.

Officers described the car as a dark Ford Explorer with damage to the passenger side.
A spokesperson described Jones as a “dedicated member of the department.”
“Her loss is deeply felt and we ask that you keep her husband and the entire Jones family, along with the family of the Sparta Police Department, in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. Please also pray that the perpetrator is found and arrested,” Police Chief Tommie Walker wrote on Facebook.
Police have not released a description of the driver.
