Bettors aren’t fearing Colorado heading into Week 1 of the 2024 college football season

Bettors’ fascination with Colorado shows no signs of abating, as the official start of the 2024 American football season is just days away.

Deion Sanders’ new-look team is the most betted team at BetMGM heading into Week 1. The Buffaloes are 9.5-point favorites at home against North Dakota State on Thursday night and are attracting the most bets and money of any team over Labor Day weekend.

The spread has shifted one point in Colorado’s favor since the opener, as 62% of bets and 76% of handles are on the Buffs to win by 10 or more. The total has also risen one point to 59.5, as 77% of bets and 91% of money are on the over. And yes, the total for the Buffaloes vs. Bison matchup is also the most-bet of all the game totals this weekend.

Colorado enters its first season back in the Big 12 with stars Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter likely playing their final seasons of college football before heading to the NFL. Much like it did for the 2023 season, Colorado’s roster was rebuilt with transfers in the offseason. The biggest focus through the portal has been on the offensive line after Sanders recorded over 50 sacks in 2023 and Colorado was one of the worst rushing teams in college football.

After starting 3-0 with wins over TCU and Nebraska in the first two weeks of last season, Colorado ultimately finished 4-8 with just one win in conference play. This year, Colorado will play seven Big 12 teams that went to bowl games last season, and North Dakota State is an FCS powerhouse.

The second-most-bet game in Week 1 is Notre Dame’s trip to Texas A&M. The Fighting Irish are 3-point favorites in Mike Elko’s debut as head coach of the Aggies. Notre Dame is the third-most-bet team against the spread, behind Colorado and Georgia. The Bulldogs are 13.5-point favorites against Clemson.
