Brazilian Death Slab Proves Nate Florence Is A Sucker For Punishment (Video)

Nate Florence loves punishment, and this adaptation proves it.

Florence could surf anywhere in the world. In fact, the same day he attempted to ride this death slab in Brazil, aptly named “The Shock,” Indonesia shot: perfect, blue tubes that raced across the entire archipelago.

But no. Florence was here in Brazil instead, throwing himself into danger for the second day in a row on a barely rideable slab that breaks over huge rocks and rarely, if ever, lets you out of the tube. Florence learned that the hard way.

“I’m in super pain,” Florence says at the beginning of this clip. “That huge impact yesterday was an extremely violent impact. One of those times when you realize you’re falling, you’re quite worried about what’s going to happen.”

Well, apparently not That worried. Florence not only dragged on for a few hours after that huge blow in the previous edit, he decided the next day that he would try a few paddles instead.

Spoiler alert: it nearly ends in disaster.

While we don’t want to spoil the 16-minute edit (the longer runtime is worth it), we can say that Florence finds himself in one of the most perilous situations of his surfing life. Watching it all unfold will make your palms sweat, even through a computer screen.

Can you imagine what his wife Mahina felt during the filming?

“I have to say, the guys were right, I don’t think The Shock is a paddle wave,” laughs Florence, once he’s safely back on land. “I had to listen to the local Brazilian cowboys.”
