EAGAN, Minnesota. — The Minnesota Vikings have parted ways with quarterback Jaren Hall and signed NFL veteran Brett Rypien as their No. 3 QB for next season.

The team announced the QB changes Thursday morning, with Rypien joining starting QB Sam Darnold, Nick Mullens and injured rookie JJ McCarthy, who will not play this year after tearing his meniscus in preparation.

Rypien, a Boise State star who has started four of the 10 NFL games he has played in, will wear the purple and gold in his sixth professional season after stints with the Denver Broncos, Los Angeles Rams, Seattle Seahawks and New York Jets, the Vikings said. He was briefly on the Chicago Bears’ preseason roster before transferring to Minnesota.

Just five days ago, Hall led the Vikings to victory in their final exhibition game against the Philadelphia Eagles, completing 15 of 21 passes and throwing for 162 yards and two touchdowns.

“I thought he did a great job,” Vikings coach Kevin O’Connell said. “He was efficient. He played fast. He put in a lot of work. That’s something he should be proud of.”

Hall was selected by the Vikings as their fifth-round pick last year and started twice for the team last season, though his second start signed by a concussion against Green Bay.

The Vikings finalized their initial roster of 53 players on Tuesdaywhich shocked some fans with the decision to fire safety Lewis Cine, the first player drafted by Kwesi Adofo-Mensah in his debut as general manager in 2022.

Running back/kick returner Kene Nwangwu was also cut earlier this week, leaving the team with just Aaron Jones and Ty Chandler in the team’s RB pool.
