A Brightline train traveling from Orlando to South Florida struck a person or a vehicle at a railroad crossing in Vero Beach Tuesday afternoon.
The accident occurred on the Brightline train leaving Orlando at 1:50 p.m. Around 3 p.m., as the passenger train was passing through Vero Beach, the train struck someone or something near the intersection of the railroad tracks with 12th Street.
The train’s horn sounded just as the brakes applied and the train cars came to a stop. Passengers on board were told there had been an “interaction” and that the train would remain stopped until authorities arrived and the train was cleared to proceed to South Florida.
No additional information was available about the accident, although the passengers did not feel any impact.
It is not known how long the train may be delayed or what impact the incident could have on other northbound or southbound Brightline trains.
