BOSTON – Fortunately, this is not the case winterA very large storm system has moved into the Massachusetts coastline and the impacts vary widely from region to region.
As much as 3-4 inches of rain fell on parts of the Outer Cape and Nantucket on Friday afternoon, while Boston received 0.01 inches. If this were the case, snow, that would be an amazing slope.
Rain timeline for Massachusetts
Rain remained mostly stationary during the day Friday, covering most of southeastern Mass. There will be a final push later Friday evening, when Boston and areas to the north and west will receive their share. Light to moderate rain is expected across most of eastern Mass. during Saturday morning and afternoon.
There will be a sharp boundary to the west, somewhere near Worcester County. Areas west of this line will remain mostly dry Saturday.
The rain will clear out of southern New England by Saturday night, drying us out for the second half of the weekend. Sunday will be the best of the weekend.
Think of this as a kind of warm-up for the upcoming storm season.
People on the coast will continue to face wind and flooding for the rest of the weekend.
The strongest northeasterly winds will be in far southeastern Massachusetts, with gusts of up to 45 mph (72 km/h) through Saturday. It will be a bit less on Sunday, but still gusty.
Concerns over coastal flooding in Massachusetts
A coastal flood warning has been issued for all upcoming flood cycles through Sunday. Tides are currently astronomically high.
Combine that with the persistent gusty winds in the northeast and we are expecting some coastal road flooding and spray during the next few flood cycles. Of particular note: Saturday high tide between 13:00 and 16:00 and Sunday high tide between 14:00 and 17:00.
