Dec. 13—A Dayton man charged with murder Friday is accused of shooting a man last month who was found dead in his car that crashed into a pole.
D’Anthonie R’amone Jackson, 23, will be arraigned Tuesday in Montgomery County Common Pleas Court on two counts of murder, two counts of assault and one count of discharging a firearm on or near restricted areas.
The gunshot victim was identified by the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office as 43-year-old Steve Dews.
Dayton police were dispatched to a shots fired call at Kammer Avenue and Winters Street just before 1:25 a.m. on Nov. 30.
Responding officers found Dews in a car that had crashed into a utility pole at Kammer Avenue and North Woodward Avenue, police said. Dews suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was taken to Miami Valley Hospital, where he died from his injuries.
Cell phone data and text messages on Dews’ phone led homicide detectives to Jackson, the Montgomery County Prosecutor’s Office said.
Jackson and a woman, 24-year-old Brianna Rena Hastings, were both charged Dec. 6 in Dayton Municipal Court in connection with Dews’ death. Hastings waived a preliminary hearing and her case was transferred to the County Common Court, pending a grand jury review.
Jackson and Hastings are each being held on $1 million bail in the Montgomery County Jail.
