At least two Palestinians were killed and another seven suffered gunshot wounds during an Israeli military operation in the Nur Shams refugee camp in Tulkarm in the West Bank, the Palestinian health authority said on Saturday.
The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed that the operation began on Friday and continued until Saturday. It said IDF forces moved against armed opponents after being shot at and attacked with explosives.
Four IDF soldiers had suffered injuries ranging from mild to moderate, the report said.
According to Palestinian media reports, four more men had been killed, including the local Islamic Jihad commander. There was no confirmation of the deaths as Nur Shams has been deposed by the IDF.
A number of Palestinians have reportedly been arrested and significant damage has been caused to roads, healthcare facilities and homes.
Nearly 450 Palestinians have been killed in the West Bank since Hamas’ attacks from the Gaza Strip on October 7, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health, with most killed in IDF operations and others in attacks on Israelis.
In the Gaza Strip, the IDF bombed rocket launch ramps in Beit Hanoun in the north after a rocket attack targeting Sderot across the border with Israel on Friday.
Dozens of flights were also carried out to other targets in the Gaza Strip, the IDF said.
And in northern Israel, along the border with Lebanon, air raid sirens sounded, signaling a possible attack by the Iran-backed Hezbollah militia.
