The driver of a Nissan Rogue accused of hitting a Pompano Beach man and leaving him dead in the road was arrested Sunday, a week after the crash, authorities said.
Willian Eduardo Beltran Velasquez, 31, of Coral Springs, was booked into Broward Main Jail Tuesday evening on one count of leaving the scene of an accident involving death and one count of tampering with physical evidence.
Someone called authorities shortly after 4 a.m. on Oct. 13 to report a person lying in the middle of the road near the 1700 block of North Dixie Highway, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office. The victim, an adult male, was pronounced dead there and pieces of the front end of a 2008 to 2013 silver Nissan Rogue were found at the scene.
Detectives found a damaged Nissan Rogue in Coral Springs on Sunday and compared it to pieces left at the crash scene, the Sheriff’s Office said. The Sheriff’s Office did not provide additional details about the investigation that led to the arrest. Court records were not available Tuesday evening.
