Drivers rescue a stray dog on the 110 Freeway near downtown Los Angeles

Drivers near downtown Los Angeles came together to rescue a scared puppy lost on the busy 110 Freeway.

In a TikTok video, the dog, with its leash still attached, sprinted across the highway next to driver James Leto’s car. The usually busy traffic along the freeway stopped so Leto and other drivers could pull the dog to the side of the highway.

In Leto’s video, a motorcyclist got off his motorcycle to grab the scared dog. Although he couldn’t catch him, the dog ran to the side of the highway, safe from traffic. The motorists comforted the puppy on the side of the highway before taking him to a shelter in the Chinatown area.

The California Highway Patrol stated that the agency routinely receives animal calls along LA’s freeways.

“Unfortunately, animal noises are a common occurrence in the Los Angeles area. Often dogs, pets or other animals end up on the freeway or are abandoned and CHP responds to assist, to ensure the roadways are clear and safe and to whenever possible, capture the animal and take it to a local animal shelter,” said Officer April Elliott.
