GOP former Rep. Fred Upton is endorsing Harris
Former Rep. Fred Upton of Michigan, one of 10 House Republicans who voted to impeach Trump before he retires in 2022, told The Detroit News on Thursday that he is supporting Harris in the 2024 presidential election.
Upton, who represented Michigan in the House of Representatives for more than 30 years and worked with Walz, said Trump is “completely unhinged.”
“We don’t need this chaos,” he told The Detroit News. “We have to move forward, and that’s why I am where I am.”
Upton also told The New York Times that he voted for Harris, noting that this was the first time he had endorsed a Democrat for president.

Harris discusses immigration, the conflict in the Middle East and how her policies differ from those of President Biden
Vice President Kamala Harris shared her stance on key political issues in her CNN town hall on Wednesday evening, with her positions on immigration and the US approach to conflict in the Middle East being some of the standout points from the event. Harris also assured that her administration would approach policy differently than the current one under President Biden, although she did not provide many details.
Moderator Anderson Cooper pressed Harris on her views on immigration, an issue that has returned in Republican attacks about her presidential campaign. Harris criticized the border wall that former President Donald Trump proposed during his time in office, but did not directly respond when asked whether she now supports pursuing that project.
“I want to strengthen our border,” she said, pledging to push through a bipartisan bill focused on border security that calls for $650 million initially set aside under Trump.
Harris also commented on the war in the Middle East after an undecided voter asked how she plans to protect Palestinian civilians. The Democratic candidate called the death toll ‘unconscionable’ and said she believes there is a chance to end Israel’s war with Hamas now Yahya Sinwar has been murdered.
As for how her policies would diverge from those of President Biden, Harris said she embodies “a new generation of leadership” in this country.
“My administration will not be a continuation of the Biden administration,” she said. “I will bring my own ideas and my own experience to this role.”
