For the second day in a row, the National Weather Service issued a heat advisory Saturday for the Miami and Fort Lauderdale areas, Collier County and mainland Monroe County.
The warning is in effect until 5 p.m. Saturday because “high temperatures and high humidity can cause heat illnesses,” the weather service said.
The base temperature is expected to be 91 degrees, but the heat index, which takes into account humidity, is expected to reach 109.

Ways to deal with excessive heat include:
▪ Stay indoors with air conditioning or fans blowing.
▪ Wear light, loose clothing when outdoors.
▪ If possible, do some work outside as the afternoon turns into evening.
▪ Drink plenty of water or cool drinks with electrolytes. If you work outside, take regular water breaks, whether you feel like you need them or not.
▪ Don’t forget to keep an eye on friends, family members or the elderly who may be living in homes with poor cooling.
