Three apartments were damaged and five residents were displaced in a fire at an apartment building in Mill Valley on Saturday, the Southern Marin Fire Protection District said.

According to fire officials, Marin County Fire Dispatch received multiple 911 calls reporting the fire at 2226 Shelter Bay Ave. at approximately 2:55 p.m. was reported. The fire brigade had the fire fully under control around 3:45 p.m. There were no injuries.

The fire started in one of the residential units and two adjacent units suffered smoke and water damage, forcing a total of five residents to flee, officials said. The Red Cross helped two displaced people by providing temporary shelter.

A total of 15 appliances and 35 firefighters responded to the incident. In addition to Central Marin Fire, Marin County and Tiburon fire departments, Mill Valley Police and PG&E responded to the fire.

A fire investigator with the Southern Marin Fire Protection District is investigating the cause of the fire.

The Southern Marin Fire Protection District provides fire suppression for the City of Mill Valley, as well as the City of Sausalito and several unincorporated communities in Marin County.
