Contra Costa firefighters were able to extinguish a grass fire that broke out late Thursday night after the blaze forced the evacuation of residents from Lotus St., authorities said.

Contra Costa Fire PIO X’s social media account first posted about the fire at 10:13 p.m. at 2700 Hillcrest Ave. in Antioch.

According to a report on X, additional crews were called in to assist with building security before firefighters began evacuating Lotus Street around 10:30 p.m.

Fortunately, crews were able to stop the fire from progressing and extinguish it shortly after 11 p.m.

Crews will remain on site to ensure the fire does not flare up again overnight. There is no word from authorities on when the evacuation order might be lifted.

The incident was one of five separate wildfires that crews responded to in Contra Costa. Several were in Antioch, along with an additional incident in Bay Point and Martinez. All of the fires were contained with no injuries reported. Authorities have not confirmed the cause of any of the fires.
