Former EKU professor placed cameras in the campus toilets. Now he’s going to jail.

A former professor at Eastern Kentucky University who placed cameras in men’s bathrooms and locker rooms was convicted Tuesday of his crimes.

Kyle Knezevich, 36, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Gregory Van Tatenhove to just over 18 years in prison for attempting to produce child pornography, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said.

Knezevich pleaded guilty to the charge in January as part of a deal that included his original charges of voyeurism, possession of items depicting sexual performance of a minor, promoting a minor in a sexual performance, five counts of promoting a sexual act by a minor and five charges. According to court records, the possession count is a matter of sexual performance by a minor.

On September 7, an EKU student found a hidden camera in the Whalen Complex on campus. Investigation revealed that the camera had been placed in the bathroom by Knezevich, a professor at the university at the time.

Police obtained a search warrant for Knezevich’s home and electronic devices.

The next day he was arrested.

The search revealed that Knezevich made recordings of both adult and minor males between about 2009 and 2023, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said.

As part of his plea, Knezevich admitted that his intent in creating the videos was to capture underage males engaging in sexually explicit conduct, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said. Under federal law, he must serve 85 percent of his sentence. After he is released from prison, he will be under probation and parole supervision for the rest of his life.
