Former York College president dies less than a month after his husband’s death

Former York College of Pennsylvania President Robert V. Iosue died Nov. 26 in Lancaster County — less than a month after his wife, Christina Jane Iosue, passed away.

Iosue, 91, served as president of the college from 1976 to 1991. He taught math classes while at the helm.

At the time of his retirement, Iosue told the York Daily Record that the legacy he was proud to leave behind was the enhanced national recognition of the college.

National figures who attended the college included former President Gerald Ford, former U.S. Secretary of Defense Caspar Weinberger, former drug czar William Bennett, former U.S. Attorney General and Governor of Pennsylvania Dick Thornburgh, and Lynne Cheney, who served as chairman was from the National Endowment for the Humanities. at the time and later became Second Lady of the United States.

Iosue gained attention for his nationally published articles on curbing the costs of higher education, according to the York Daily Record article.

The private university kept tuition under $5,000 at the time, thanks in part to the president’s fundraising efforts. The university’s financial resources also allowed it to offer merit-based scholarships to hundreds of incoming students and pay for construction projects.

Iosue wrote books after his retirement.

His wife, Teena, died on October 27 at the age of 87, according to her obituary. She was noted hosting dignitaries at the university president’s house.

“Although she enjoyed doing this, her favorite guests were the students,” her obituary reads. “At the beginning of each year, she hosted a welcome party for Freshman Orientation and throughout the year hosted numerous events at her home for the students.”

Celebration of life planned for Robert and Teena Iosue

According to his obituary, a celebration of life for the couple is planned for Saturday, April 19, at the York College Performing Arts Center, 441 Country Club Road.
