On the Fourth of July, it’s hard to miss the giant floating rubber duck in Lake Elsinore, affectionately known as “Mama Duck.”
The massive six-story duck will be inflated on Wednesday, ready in time for the lakeside holiday season.
So why the giant rubber duck? Well, it’s entertainment for the eyes and the perfect selfie backdrop. Created by Dutch artist Florentijn Hofman, the attraction is sure to draw a crowd, as the traveling duck is a phenomenon in its own right.
This period marks a return to Southern California as the “world’s largest rubber duck” is a 2014 Tall Ships Los Angeles festival debutwho led a parade of national and international sailing ships in the main channel of the harbour.
The Port of Los Angeles was the very first West Coast port to host the world-famous rubber duck, and only the second city in North America to do so, organizers said at the time.
In addition to the duck fun, the 4th of July weekend celebration at Lake Elsinore runs from July 4th to July 6th. Festivities kick off on July 4th with a concert, vendors, food, and a fireworks show. The “Jeep and Shine” car show takes place on July 5th, showcasing Jeeps of all types, followed by an evening concert.
For duck lovers, there is a duck festival on July 6, including a concert, stalls and food.
“This event is not only a celebration of our country’s independence, but also a unique opportunity to witness the giant, adorable duck that has captured hearts around the world,” said Lake Elsinore Mayor Steve Manos.
“We are delighted to welcome visitors from far and wide to experience this wonderful attraction and the many festivities planned for the weekend.”
