Ginnie Springs closed as deputies and FDLE search for attempted murder suspect

Ginnie Springs, a popular private recreation area along the Santa Fe River in Gilchrist County, is currently closed as officers and members of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement search for an attempted murder suspect.

A Facebook post from the Gilchrist County Sheriff’s Office on Sunday afternoon noted that the incident occurred around 11:30 PM on Saturday on the roadway between Devil’s Spring and the Metro Launch.

The woman is described as African-American and in her early 20s, between 6 feet 10 inches and 6 feet 4 inches tall, with a muscular/fit build. According to the post, she was wearing a green bikini top or a dark and multi-colored patterned top and bikini bottoms or short shorts. She also wore hoop earrings and multiple rings. She was last seen walking towards the park exit.

Ginnie Springs posted on social media and on its website that “The park is temporarily closed. We will let everyone know when admission is available.”

The High Spring Police Department posted on its social media account just after 1 p.m. that “major traffic backups” were occurring in the area of ​​South Main Street and Poe Springs Road.

Social media was flooded Sunday with reports of unconfirmed, multiple fatal shootings at the park over the holiday weekend, including one on Friday and one on Saturday.

Multiple calls from The Sun to the Gilchrist County Sheriff’s Office regarding the alleged incidents have not yet been returned.

A May 7 Facebook post by the park about the Memorial Day festivities describes the event as an “adult weekend with a festive atmosphere, we do not recommend it for children.”

Last year, a 45-year-old Holiday woman died in the park over Memorial Day weekend after falling from the back of a moving Jeep. The Florida Highway Patrol then reported that after the woman fell, she was run over by a trailer pulled by the Jeep. She was transported to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
