ST. PAUL, Min. – Hundreds of gun safety advocates are at the Minnesota Capitol on Tuesday for an annual rally in support of stricter gun laws.
The rotunda was packed with advocates, most from the organizations Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action, but also from gun violence survivors.
Lawmakers passed a gun safety package last year including universal background checks and extreme risk protection orders.

But supporters of Tuesday’s meeting, including St. Paul Mayor Melvin Carter, say more work needs to be done. They are calling on lawmakers to pass the proposal a law on stricter storage of firearms and another requiring gun owners to report a lost or stolen firearm to the police.
Carter says these laws will protect children and prevent firearms from falling into the wrong hands.
‘The only thing we say today in this roundabout, the only thing we say today under this dome, is that we must treat an entire state of children as if we love them very much! We have to treat an entire state of children like their lives. is very important to us!” said Carter.
Advocates went to share their message with lawmakers at the Capitol after the meeting.
Reporter Beret Leone will have more about the rally during WCCO’s The Four, which starts at 4 p.m.
