Authorities are still searching for the gunman who fatally shot a store owner at the Victorville Galleria last weekend.
The shooting happened just after 3:20 Sunday afternoon at the popular indoor shopping center, located in the 14500 block of Palmdale Road, according to officials with the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.
Officers dispatched to the scene found the victim suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Frank Pisillias was outside the mall when he heard the gunfire.
“I’m walking to the door and all of a sudden I see this guy running out and he has a gun in his left hand,” Psillias told KCAL News. “I raise my hands and he continues to walk past me unfazed.”
Then he ran into the store, but it was already too late.
“By the time I got in, he wasn’t breathing, there were shell casings on the floor. Everyone panicked, there was nothing they could do,” Psillias said.
Although the victim has still not been identified by authorities, other business owners at the mall say he ran an electronics stand and was always welcoming and friendly.
Family members also came to the mall Monday, hoping to learn more about what led to his killing.
“I feel like it’s really horrible because he turned his life around and turned around,” said Creshawna Richmond, the victim’s cousin. “It’s sad to see that he wasn’t even able to leave the building.”
Investigators had no information available on a suspect or motive for the shooting. Witnesses say there are cameras everywhere in the mall, which should help with a quick arrest.
The Victorville Galleria was closed Monday so crews could clear the scene.
