‘He had a heart of gold;’ Family speaks out after man is hit and killed by car in Xenia

A family is speaking out after their loved one was struck and killed by a car in Xenia on Thursday evening.

Police said Brandon Grooms, 27, was struck while crossing the street near Cincinnati and North Miami avenues around 10 p.m.

“He was very loved. He had a heart of gold,” said Dawn Isaac, Grooms’ mother.

She said her son always helped others.

‘All you had to do was call him. He would be there. He would be ready,” Isaac said.

Investigators said they received information Friday that helped them identify the driver as Monty Little, who was subsequently arrested.

“We were able to locate him in Washington Township, and we were also able to locate the vehicle in Spring Valley,” said Major Lon Etchison with the Xenia Police Department.

Little is charged with tampering with evidence and failure to stop at the scene of an accident.

The groom’s family said they are happy that police have made an arrest.

‘To run off like that, that’s just cruel. It’s inhumane. Brandon deserves justice,” said Caroyln Benson, Grooms’ stepsister.

But they still grieve.

“It still won’t bring him back, but I want this guy to pay for it,” Issac said.

The Groom’s family said every time Little is scheduled to appear in court, they will be as well.

“I’ll be there. If I have to take time off work, if I get fired, I’ll be there,” Benson said.

Issac said her heart is broken and she is trying to focus on the good times.

“He was a very special child, he was my baby,” she said.

Little is scheduled to appear in court on April 29.
