Highs in the lower 90s, scattered thunderstorms possible

Weather officials expect temperatures in the low 90s on Wednesday with scattered thunderstorms in parts of north-central and northeastern Illinois and northwest Indiana.

Current morning conditions at O’Hare International Airport are partly cloudy at 79 degrees, and on the Southwest Side at Midway Airport, conditions are mostly cloudy at 79 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

Officials expect possible isolated to scattered thunderstorms to move into the area Wednesday afternoon, with the best chance of storms north of the line from Peru to Aurora to Evanston, officials said. The storms can cause heavy rain showers and gusts of wind. Severe weather was not expected.

Officials said heat indexes could reach the mid to upper 90s through Saturday, reaching above 100 degrees at times.

Radar indicated the storm was moving northeast at about 25 mph, officials said.
