The first episode of Gypsy Rose: life after lock-up takes viewers behind the scenes of Gypsy-Rose Blanchard’s December 2023 release and the first night she shared with her now-estranged husband Ryan Scott Anderson.

In the first episode, we see Anderson heading to prison in Chillicothe, Mo., where Blanchard spent eight years after pleading guilty to manslaughter in connection with her mother’s death in 2016.

The pair seemed happy to see each other and spent the night together in a hotel before visiting Blanchard’s family the next morning.

When a producer asks Anderson and Blanchard in the morning how the evening was, Anderson replies, “Great, we’ve grown to love each other.” Then Blanchard replies, laughing, “We have to consummate our marriage.” Anderson then adds, “We were allowed to do that. She was so nervous.”

The couple married in a prison ceremony in July 2022. After Blanchard’s release, Blanchard and Anderson lived together in Louisiana for about three months before breaking up.

Shortly afterwards, Blanchard confirmed that she was back together with her ex-fiancé Ken Urker. According to the show’s trailer, Urker will also appear in the new series.
