As promised, Memorial Day weekend brought plenty of heat to Florida, with several cities setting records when it came to temperatures.

Most of the state won’t get much relief today, although a “cold” front is moving into the state.

Humid conditions will make conditions feel even warmer, with heat indices reaching triple digits over the three-day weekend and expected to reach as high as 105 in some locations today.

Why is it so hot?

A ‘cold’ front is approaching Florida and could increase the chance of showers and storms. Don’t expect temperatures to drop much.

Early Tuesday, the front was located along the Interstate 10 corridor and was expected to drift southward throughout the day before coming to a halt just offshore this evening, according to National Weather Service Mobile.

According to the National Weather Service Tampa Bay, storms are expected to hit the Nature Coast on Tuesday evening and Wednesday, reaching East Central Florida on Wednesday and sticking around for the rest of the week.

Panhandle: Mostly clear skies mean temperatures in the low to mid 90s. The heat index is expected to be in the low three digits when drier air is present. Friday and Saturday look like the best chances for rain and a chance of thunder.

Tallahassee, North Florida: A chance of rain and thunderstorms on Tuesday morning, then dry until Friday and a chance of storms again on Saturday. Highs will generally be in the upper 80s to mid 90s each afternoon in Tallahassee, but in the low to mid 90s with a heat index around 100 in north-central Florida Tuesday before drier air moves into the area Wednesday and Thursday, according to the National Weather Service Jacksonville. High temperatures on Wednesday and Thursday are expected to be slightly above normal, around 90 to 90 degrees.

Central Florida: Isolated thunderstorms are possible north of Interstate 4 Tuesday morning, bringing strong winds and locally heavy rain showers. Afternoon temperatures will rise into the mid-90s, with peak heat indices between 100 and 105 in east-central Florida before residents see some relief late in the week, according to the National Weather Service, Melbourne.

South Florida: Scattered showers and thunderstorms are possible today, with the highest coverage expected over the eastern half of Florida. Heat indices are approaching 105 and may briefly reach 110 over parts of the East Coast this afternoon. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are possible throughout the rest of the work week.
