When it comes to Halloween, Heidi Klum is in a class of her own.
For more than two decades, the supermodel has hosted her annual Halloween party in New York City, unveiling her elaborately designed costume for the year.
After hours of waiting, fans tuned into Klum’s Instagram Live at 10 p.m. ET on Halloween night to see her debut her 2024 costume: ET, from Steven Spielberg’s 1982 film of the same name.
Klum’s costume references the scene in which Gertie (Drew Barrymore) dresses ET in women’s clothing. For the Instagram Live, Klum was joined by husband Tom Kaulitz, who dressed as ET without a disguise.
Ahead of her big reveal, Klum appeared on an Amazon livestream alongside her prosthetic designer Mike Marino to answer questions about her costume and give viewers a chance to peek into her extensive preparation process.
During the hour-long stream, Klum hinted that she’s dressing up as something that’s alive, can sing, has “a lot of wrinkles” and “works 360.”
“That’s part of the performance,” Klum said. “These are moving sculptures. We have to make sure everything works. It is a living work of art. It is performance art.”
With celebrity attendees like Emily Ratajkowski, Kelsea Ballerini and Chase Stokes, Klum’s Halloween parties have become a celebrity hotspot on the spookiest night of the year.
“All my friends are from all over the world, literally someone from Germany, from Italy, from LA, from everywhere,” Klum said during the livestream. “I always find it exciting to see other people’s costumes. That’s what I like. You know, I love seeing the creativity that we all inspire [in] each other. That’s the nice thing about it.”
The America has talent Judge, who is sometimes referred to as the “Queen of Halloween,” is known for going all out with her annual costumes.
For the 20th anniversary of her Halloween party in 2019, Klum dressed as an alien, wearing a prosthetic bodysuit with stapled stitches and exposed brains, muscles and tendons – which took 12 hours to complete. Her previous costumes include Jessica Rabbit and Princess Fiona Shreka monkey out Planet of the Apes and a giant worm.
Klum’s repertoire of Halloween looks from the past speaks for itself. Instead of opting for sexy costumes, Klum said she prefers to lean into the grotesque.
“I like not making myself so sexy,” says the first Project job said host. “I love the art of this and I love transforming into something so different and unrecognizable. Often with the sexy costumes you can still see the person, but I love being super disguised.
