Two US officials confirm to CBS News that an Israeli missile has hit Iran. The strike follows last weekend’s retaliatory measures drone and missile attack against Israel, to which Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has promised to respond.

Officials remained tight-lipped about the location and scale of the Israeli attack.

Dubai-based airlines Emirates and FlyDubai began flying around western Iran at around 4:30 am local time. They offered no explanation, although local warnings to pilots suggested the airspace may have been closed. The semi-official Fars news agency reported the sound of explosions over Isfahan, near the international airport. It offered no explanation for the explosion. However, Isfahan is home to a major air base for the Iranian military, as well as sites related to the nuclear program. The Iranian government made no immediate comment. Isfahan is located about 345 kilometers south of the Iranian capital Tehran.
