It could feel like 110 degrees Fahrenheit – all of South Florida is under heat warning

The National Weather Service issued a heat warning on Friday for all of South Florida, from West Palm Beach to Florida City, including Everglades National Park in southern Miami-Dade.

The highest heat index values (which include temperatures plus humidity) make it feel like temperatures are between 40 and 43 degrees Celsius.

In southwest and central Florida, the heat advisory is in effect from Lake Okeechobee and the surrounding inland areas, then to Naples and the southern Gulf Coast. Fort Myers is not in the zone. Temperatures may feel like they are between 108 and 113 degrees.

The advice is valid until Friday 8 p.m.

We can expect it to remain warm through the weekend, with temperatures ranging between 38 and 43 degrees Celsius.

The National Weather Service said scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected in South Florida on Friday. Storms are likely to bring heavy rain, lightning and gusty winds, with the possibility of flooding in areas with poor drainage.

In Miami, the chance of rain is 30%, and in Broward, the chance of rain is 50%.

The weather service advises people to stay indoors and drink plenty of fluids. Stay in air-conditioned areas, limit outdoor activities during the hottest parts of the day, and check on family members and neighbors. Wear light, light-colored, loose-fitting clothing. Wear a hat and sunscreen to protect yourself from harmful UV rays when outdoors.

If you must be outside, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends taking frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned areas. If you feel dizzy, confused, weak, or faint, seek immediate medical attention by calling 911.

A heat warning has been issued for all of South Florida for Friday.
