Jaden Rashada announces transfer from Arizona State, 1 year after landing there in the wake of the NIL fiasco in Florida

Jaden Rashada is transferring to a different school for the second time in his career. Hopefully this saga won’t be so messy.

The Arizona State quarterback announced on social media Thursday that he had entered the transfer portal after one year in Tempe. Of course, he only arrived at Arizona State after a fiasco in Florida involving a reportedly rejected $13 million NIL deal.

In his announcement, Rashada thanked his teammates and Arizona State’s coaching, academics and cafeteria staff and said he was “looking for the best fit for my career.”

Adam Gorney from Rivals It was then reported that Georgia plans to launch a serious attack on Rashada. A return to the SEC East would certainly be interesting.

Jaden Rashada’s college career has been a wild ride so far

The saga surrounding Rashada’s deal with Florida is unavoidable when discussing his career. He was ranked by Rivals as the No. 11 pro-style quarterback in the class of 2023 and signed a letter of intent with the Gators, but requested and was released after a deal with the Gator Collective, Florida’s NIL affiliate, fell through.

A contract obtained by the Athletic revealed that the Gator Collective had promised Rashada up to $13.8 million, with $500,000 upfront and six-figure monthly payments, as long as he remained with the school. It was an unprecedented deal, with more money than most NFL rookie contracts and minimal strings attached.

However, the collective missed the first payment, which led to Rashada reopening his recruitment and landing at his father’s alma mater in Arizona State. The situation later became the subject of an NCAA investigation.

Rashada became something of a feel-good story when he was named the Sun Devils’ Week 1 starter, but he only started two games before missing the rest of the season with an injury. For Rashada in his second year, a quarterback battle loomed between Trenton Bourget, last year’s leading passer, and Sam Leavitt, the transfer from Michigan State.

Instead, Rashada chose to look elsewhere.
