JD Vance campaigns in Philadelphia on Tuesday, the same day Kamala Harris is set to appear with her new running mate

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — Republican vice presidential nominee J.D. Vance will be in Philadelphia for a campaign rally on Tuesday, the same day that presumptive Democratic nominee Vice President Kamala Harris will hold a meeting with her yet-to-be-named running mate at Temple University Liacouras Center.

Vance, who joined Donald Trump on the GOP ticket in Julywill travel from Ohio to Pennsylvania for his performance.

CBS News Philadelphia has reached out to Trump’s campaign to confirm where and when Vance’s event will take place in the city.

Temple University announced last week that Harris’ first formal appearance with her vice presidential pick would be on the school’s campus. According to CBS News, Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz and Arizona Sen. Mark Kelly were all in attendance. personally spoke to the vice president during the weekend.

Harris is expected to announce her running mate on Tuesday.

Shapiro, who has been rumored for weeks as a top candidate, has dodged questions about whether he is actually in the running for the job and whether he would accept the job if offered.

“I’m not going to get into those hypotheticals,” Shapiro said Friday, Aug. 3, at Cheyney University. “The vice president is going to make the decision she wants to make.”

However, Shapiro did respond to comments from Vance, who compared Shapiro to a “bad impression of Barack Obama” during a recent podcast appearance.

“Barack Obama is probably our most gifted speaker of my time. So it’s a bit of an odd insult, I think,” Shapiro said. He went on to call Vance “a total phony” and “the most inorganic candidate I’ve ever seen on the national stage.”

This past weekend, Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker caused some confusion online after she posted a video from her campaign account endorsing Shapiro for vice president.

The video was captioned: “Proud to be back with so many leaders from our region supporting @KamalaHarris for President and @JoshShapiroPA for VP! We are ONE CITY, ONE REGION, and ONE Commonwealth United!”

A source at City Hall told CBS News Philadelphia that the video is not a premature announcement of Shapiro’s selection as Harris’ running mate, but rather a show of support for Parker to show her support for the Pennsylvania governor.
