KY State Police trooper charged with theft and breach of public trust in state court

A Kentucky State Police trooper has been charged with theft and breach of public trust after allegedly taking control of state-owned “movable property.”

Trooper Daniel Forbis, 42, was charged May 21 in Franklin County Circuit Court with theft and unlawful taking of property over $10,000 and abuse of the public trust, court records show.

Both charges are Class C felonies. KSP court documents and witness complaints identify Forbis as a trooper at KSP Post 15 in Columbia.

The indictment alleges that on two separate events in June 2023 and February 2024, Forbis “unlawfully took or exercised control over movable property” of the state and the KSP.

Court documents allege that Forbis, while acting in a government capacity, seized public property and “intentionally dealt with public property as his own” but failed to disclose this to his employer.

KSP Post 15 serves Adair, Casey, Clinton, Cumberland, Green, Marion, Metcalfe, Monroe, Russell, Taylor and Washington counties.

Forbis’ first court appearance is scheduled for July 12.
