Based in Los Angeles, Cafecita Coffee tells a story of slow, scientific roasting and a commitment to empowering women in the coffee industry.

The coffee shop sources its products exclusively from sustainable farms and women’s cooperatives in places like Chiapas, Mexico.

“Women represent 70 percent of the manual labor on coffee farms, but are far less represented as decision makers or as owners,” says Natalie Webb, the owner of Cafecita Coffee. “A lot of it is that women can’t own land, often it’s in their husband’s name or their father’s name.”

Cafecita Coffee is a beacon of change in the sector. Webb added that at launch they were the only roaster in the country sourced exclusively from women-owned farms. Today, they remain the only one focused on women’s empowerment, with a percentage of every sale going towards supporting women’s nonprofits worldwide.

“Getting to a point where you can’t just deliver a cup of coffee, but you can deliver a message with that cup of coffee, I think that’s super cool,” says barista Maxim Escamilla.

Cafecita coffee products and merchandise can be purchased online and in cafes throughout Los Angeles.
