In one week, the 9 Diaper Drive collected more than 6,000 diapers for Mecklenburg County families in need.
More than 5,600 wipes and more than 500 incontinence products for menstruation and adults were also collected.
For 40 years, families have attended Nourish Up’s Food Pantry at Statesville Avenue Presbyterian Church.
Frederick Sanders, who runs the pantry, said they are trying to do a lot more to serve the North Charlotte community.
“If you think about it, when people have a food shortage, they can’t buy other things like paper products or diapers. If they have children, by working with the Diaper Bank of North Carolina, we can address two shortcomings that people have,” Sanders explained.

In September, Channel 9 showed how Charlotte’s chapter of the Diaper Bank of North Carolina is collecting and distributing diapers to local organizations that help families.
Nourish Up, the organization’s largest partner, is responsible for distributing 80% of diapers in food banks.
“Every day we get between 60 and 75 customers who come to pick up diapers. They either come for diapers and food, or just for diapers,” Sanders said.
Channel 9 spoke to Glenda Lockhart when she visited the Statesville pantry for the first time this month.
She said she hoped to get food for herself, as well as diapers for her grandbaby.
“They’re very expensive,” Lockhart said. “If people know they have to come out, that’s helpful. For those who need it, it is useful.”
Families can receive free diapers every 30 days at select Nourish Up Food Pantry locations.
