On Wednesday, a person was fatally shot by Long Beach police for allegedly brandishing a firearm.
It happened sometime around 4:20 p.m., when officers were called to MacArthur Park, located at 14th Street and Gundry Avenue, after receiving reports that someone there may be in possession of a gun, according to an LBPD statement.
Officers arrived to find a man matching the description, and upon contact observed he reportedly had a gun.
They say the man brandished a firearm and did not comply with their demands to drop the weapon, prompting them to open fire.
The suspect, who has not yet been identified, was taken by Long Beach Fire Department paramedics to a nearby hospital, where he later died.
No one else was injured in the incident. Officers found a weapon at the scene.
SkyCal flew over MacArthur Park, where there was a heavy police presence. Part of the park was cordoned off with crime scene tape as dozens of bystanders watched.
