* To no one’s surprise, Donald TrumpHis political operation sought to turn the first day of his criminal trial into a fundraising opportunity.

* Voters in Alabama’s Second Congressional District will vote on major party nominees today. As the Associated Press reported, this is a district that “has been redrawn by a federal court to expand the voting rights of black residents.”

* Michigan’s statehouse has been deadlocked for months, with each party holding 54 seats, but that will change today with two special elections in heavily Democratic districts just outside Detroit.

* The Republican Party of Wisconsin has a new executive director: Andrew Iverson. That wouldn’t be particularly notable unless the AP reported that Iverson “made allegations of widespread fraud that were ultimately debunked.” The same report highlighted a recording made two days after Election Day 2020 in which Iverson said, “Here’s the drill: The communications will continue to fan the flames and make it known that the Democrats are trying to steal this election.”

* And in New York, former Republican Rep. George SantosThe comeback bid appears to have gotten off to a rocky start: Politico, citing his latest campaign finance filing, reported: “A new campaign committee of disgraced former Rep. George Santos has raised no money and reported no activity in March, putting his plans to return to Congress.”
