WARREN, Mich. (CBS DETROIT) – It’s one of the coolest odds of the NFL Draft, and millions will see it.

De La Salle Collegiate High School senior Kandakai Sherman hands NFL prospects their hats for the team they selected.

“Yes, of course. Without a doubt, I would do this,” said Sherman, who will commit to Cornell in the fall.

“It was just so surreal because I’m going to be a college football player and that’s like a goal that’s so real to me. Makes me want it even more just knowing that it’s so achievable and it’s right there.”

Sherman says he was just finishing homework one afternoon when head football coach Dan Rohn texted him.

“He said, ‘Come see me,’ with an exclamation point. I was like, ‘Okay, what could this be about?'” Sherman said.

Rohn was proud to deliver the good news after a Detroit Lions youth program called him to see if they had someone he thought would be a good fit for the opportunity.

“You know, he did everything right for us. He’s done everything right since he’s been in our program and not just on the football field, but in the hallways of the school. One of the most respected young men we have in our building have, right now,” Rohn said.

Sherman tells us you can see him on the first night of the NFL Draft, between 8:00 PM and 9:00 PM, on April 25.
