Rumors swirled for months, but state permits and Wichita Appraisal District records show a tract of land on the Kell Freeway near Lawrence Road has been sold to Winco Foods LLC of Boise, Idaho.

Documents filed with the state show the new store will be 80,000 square feet. Construction is set to begin in November and completion is expected in July 2025. The estimated cost is $12.5 million.

WinCo operates warehouse stores that specialize in the sale of bulk food.

The company was founded in 1967 and became employee-owned in 1985. The company operates approximately 138 stores in nine states, primarily in the western U.S., but also has several locations in Texas and Oklahoma.

The Wichita Falls store will be located on Kell Boulevard, west of the U-Haul business and in the Lawrence Road corridor, which has become the city’s most active shopping area in recent years.
