Newsom, Bonta respond to settlement over Elk Grove housing project rejection

A settlement has been reached over the city of Elk Grove’s “wrongful denial of a proposed supportive housing project for low-income households at risk of homelessness,” California Gov. Gavin Newsom and Attorney General Rob Bonta said in a statement Wednesday.

The project originally provided 66 studio apartments. It will now provide 80 one-bedroom apartments for low-income households at risk of homelessness.

As part of the settlement with the state, Elk Grove agreed to have the state monitor compliance with state housing laws, designate an additional site for the development of public housing and pay the state $150,000 in attorney fees and other costs, according to the California Department of Housing and Community Development.
