In 2022, the year he launched his company, Arkhum Productions, and played DC superhero Atom Smasher in the Dwayne Johnson-led blockbuster Black AdamCentineo starred in Netflix’s spy thriller series The recruit. The actor leads the series as Owen Hendricks, a rookie CIA lawyer who becomes embroiled in the world of dangerous international espionage. In their debut week, the show’s first two episodes reached No. 2 and No. 6 on Samba TV’s top weekly streaming programs, the Cover reported. It was renewed for season 2 in January 2023.

Centineo compares his tenure as a young Hollywood heartthrob to his junior and senior years in college, so to speak. The recruit is a postdoctoral fellow.

“I think about it often The Fosters as my first two years of college, and To all the boys And Sierra Burgess and all the Netflix stuff for the next two years, and now I’ve graduated,” he shared Men’s health in 2022. “I’ve always been excited The recruit was something I couldn’t wait for, but actually I just had to slowly grow into it.”

Unlike his previous roles, The recruit represented a new beginning for Centineo, who opted to bring Alexi Hawley’s script to Netflix. The actor played a major role in getting the series off the ground. Centineo told the Hollywood reporter in 2023 that the project was the result of doing ‘what feels good and what feels fun’. But becoming an action star wasn’t the intention; the show just happened [an] action, spy genre through an interesting lens.”

“The plan was not to just deflect and take action,” he said. “I feel like I’m very fortunate that I have the opportunity to sit back and decide what I’m going to do, because before you were just auditioning and auditioning, and you took whatever you could get. Now that I have some time and the luxury to sit back and choose what we do next, it’s kind of like what I respond to.”

Centineo has officially ushered in a new era. In the six years since he was launched into Hollywood stardom, the actor, who appears in Forbes’ 30 Under 30 List for 2025 has survived the ebbs and flows of the industry and has managed to achieve continued success. Of XO, Kitty, the recruit And Warfare — projects across three different genres – Centineo, due out in 2025 and has also teased an upcoming film with his Arkhum Productions, continues to demonstrate his range as an actor and producer. Don’t expect him to stop anytime soon.
