One person killed and three injured in SUV-car collision, officials in South Carolina say

One person was killed and three others were injured Saturday in a collision between an SUV and a car, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

The collision happened in Laurens County around 5:40 p.m., said Lance Cpl. Brittany Glover.

According to Glover, both a 2004 Chevrolet Blazer and a 2015 Chrysler 300 were traveling south on Interstate 385. At the 13 mile marker on I-385, the Chrysler struck the Chevy, causing the SUV to run off the right side of the road and into a guardrail, Glover said.

According to Glover, the Chevy driver died at the scene.

The Laurens County Coroner’s Office has not publicly identified the Chevy driver.

Glover said there were three people in the Chrysler, and all were injured and taken to an area hospital. No further information about their condition was available.

No other injuries have been reported.

It is not known whether those involved in the accident were wearing seat belts.

There is no information available about the cause of the collision, but the highway patrol is still investigating the accident.

At least 447 people had died on South Carolina roadways through June 23 in 2024, according to the state Department of Public Safety. Last year, 1,030 people died in accidents in South Carolina, DPS reported.

At least 10 people have died in accidents in Laurens County in 2024, according to DPS data.
