Palestinians say several people have been killed in Israeli attacks on Gaza City

Seven people have been killed in Israeli army attacks on targets in Gaza City, the Hamas-controlled Civil Defense Forces said on Thursday.

Dozens of Palestinians were injured in the bombing of the Shejaiya neighborhood, it added. Palestinian media reported heavy attacks on the area.

The information could not be independently verified.

The Israeli military said it could not confirm the information when asked for comment.

Earlier, the army had called on residents of several neighborhoods in Gaza City to leave, which is usually a sign of upcoming new Israeli military operations in the area.

All residents and displaced people were urged to immediately leave the districts of Shejaiya, al-Turkuman and Tuffah and relocate to an area designated as a “humanitarian zone” in the south of the coastal region, according to an appeal published in Arabic by an Israeli military spokesman on Thursday.

At least 37,765 people have been killed and another 86,429 injured since the start of the war in the Gaza Strip, according to the health authority controlled by the Palestinian Islamist Hamas movement. The figures do not distinguish between civilians and combatants and cannot be independently verified.

The war was sparked by the October 7 massacre in Israel, in which more than 1,200 people were killed by Hamas terrorists and other groups.
