MANKATO, Minn. — A 70-year-old Mankato man is recovering after he was hit by an SUV Thursday evening.

Police say the man was hit on South Bend Avenue near Spartan Street just after 9 p.m. A witness told officers that he was walking on the roadway at the time of the collision.

The victim was seriously injured but is expected to survive. Police say the driver of the SUV, a 79-year-old woman from North Mankato, was not injured.

The Minnesota State Patrol is assisting with the investigation.
