Phillies fans express concern over Kyle Schwarber, Bryce Harper injuries

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — Like the Phillies As the second half of the season begins, some fans are nervous Kyle Schwarber and Bryce Harper will be out of action for the next few matches. Both players were subsequently placed on the 10-day injured list Thursday’s loss to the Miami Marlins.

“We’re visiting from California and were really excited to see the Phillies,” said Sacramento resident Jenna Diaz as she headed to Citizens Bank Park to watch the Phillies play the Marlins on Friday night. “This is my first time in Philadelphia. It’s a little unfortunate that they both got injured yesterday.”

Fans said the loss of these two stars is a big blow to the team, especially with JT Realmuto on the injured list. But fans believe the team can survive.

“I think they’re going to have to lean on the rest of their hitters right now,” Bethlehem’s Marcelo Benatti said. “I think Trea Turner and Nick Castellanos have to really come up big. Alec Bohm, Bryson Stott, all those guys, they’ve got to come up pretty big.”

Fans said the two players called up to strengthen the roster, Kody Clemens and Johan Rojas, have big shoes to fill.

“Especially Rojas, I’m excited for him,” said Daniel Tsai of Miami, Florida. “I know he struggled a little bit this year starting at center, but he did a great job in the Lehigh Valley and I’m glad he’s here.”

The injuries will test the Phillies, who have enjoyed much success in the first half of the season, but confidence in the Phils is high.

Fans are looking forward to another World Series run after Schwarber and Harper return.

“You know we can do it. Yeah, no doubt,” rapped Phillies superfan Monty G. of South Philadelphia. “With Schwarber and Harper, sure, they’re out. But you know we’re going to do it. Yep. Yeah, really, because you know we’re the best. #1 Fightin’ Phils.”
