Former President Donald Trump has built a clear lead over the vice president Kamala Harris after winning key battleground states.
Several major news outlets have called Trump’s victory in Pennsylvania a crucial victory swing state that was the most sought-after prize on the electoral ticket.
And the mood at the Mar-a-Lago and Howard University viewing parties couldn’t have been more different.
Posts on X showed a bustling crowd at Mar-a-Lago. Elon Musk and Dana White, the head of the Ultimate Fighting Championship, appeared huddled in conversation with Trump at Mar-a-Lago during the viewing party, as per Musk’s posts on X.
At the Palm Beach Convention Center viewing party, crowds of Trump supporters were seen celebrating as the votes edged closer to victory for the Republican candidate.
The mood was more somber at Howard University’s Watch Party. Cedric Richmond, co-chair of the Harris-Walz campaign, announced around 1 a.m. ET that the vice president would not be commenting on Howard University that evening.
“We still have to count votes. We still have states that haven’t been called yet. We will continue to fight tonight to ensure that every vote is counted, that every voice has spoken,” Richmond said.
He added that Harris would instead speak at Howard University on Wednesday morning.
Supporters were pictured leaving the venue after it was announced that Harris would not appear there.
Selina Wang, an ABC journalist who was at the Howard Watch party, posted a video of the scene at the university on X after midnight.
“Many are leaving,” Wang wrote in the caption of the post.
Howard’s mood right now
Some attendees harbor hope. Many are leaving. One woman told me she thinks we are witnessing the disappearance of the American as we know it pic.twitter.com/uoOf6OPUkR— Selina Wang (@selinawangtv) November 6, 2024
A Northwestern University student, Eli Kronenberg, also posted photos from the location, adding that Harris supporters were leaving the location.
