SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) – San Diego police are investigating a series of drive-by pellet gun shootings at several Hillcrest businesses this weekend.
In total, four LGBTQ+-friendly businesses in Hillcrest were targeted in the shootings around 1 a.m. Saturday: The Rail, Number One Fifth Avenue, Rich’s nightclub and Pecs Bar.
Wrong-way driver on I-8 crashes head-on into car
In video obtained by FOX 5 from two of those companies, at least three employees can be seen being hit by a pellet gun fired from a passing vehicle at two separate locations.
Surveillance video outside Rich’s nightclub on University Ave shows the moment an employee was taken to the ground by a pellet gun after nearly being hit in the eye. It shows how another was hit in the back of the head.
Park rangers have seen San Diego enforce its ban on beach classes
On 5th Ave, in separate surveillance video, a security guard standing outside The Rail can be seen being shot in the arm by a pellet gun from a moving vehicle.
The owner of Rich’s nightclub said he had heard reports of similar incidents in the San Diego area that evening, mainly in Old Town and downtown. However, police are still trying to confirm whether this was a targeted attack and whether the incidents are related.
There are no suspects in custody.
San Diego police are investigating. Anyone with information is asked to call SDPD’s non-emergency line at 619-531-2000.
