Emma Raducanu has turned down the chance to play for Great Britain at this summer’s Olympics, but two-time gold medalist Andy Murray will compete in Paris.

The 21-year-old Raducanu is ranked too low to qualify because she is still coming back from surgery on her wrists and ankle last year.

The 2021 US Open champion was offered one of two spots reserved for former Grand Slam champions by the International Tennis Federation (ITF).

Raducanu missed the French Open – played on the same clay courts as Roland Garros where Olympic tennis will also take place – to ensure she is fit for the British grass swing.

“I have had several conversations with Emma over the last few weeks and a slightly longer period where it is very clear how much it would mean to her to be part of a British team at the Olympic Games,” said Iain Bates, head of the Olympic Games. GB Olympic tennis team. .

“I think she feels like this isn’t the right time for her this summer.

“Hopefully she has many Olympics ahead of her. I feel very comfortable with the decision she has made.”

Britain’s nominations were announced at the Queen’s Club on Sunday.

The ITF will announce the full list of participants for Paris 2024 on July 4.

Murray, who won gold at London 2012 and Rio 2016, has been given an ITF berth for what could be the final tournament of the 37-year-old’s career.

Murray said earlier this year that he didn’t expect to “play much this summer.”

Cameron Norrie, Jack Draper and Dan Evans will join Murray in the men’s singles.

Katie Boulter is the only British woman to qualify for the Games via ranking.

Murray and Dan Evans are also nominated for the men’s doubles.

Joe Salisbury and Neal Skupski will play in men’s doubles due to their world rankings.

Boulter and Heather Watson have been nominated for the women’s doubles, as have Harriet Dart and Maia Lumsden.

The Olympic tennis tournament will take place from July 27 to August 4 at Roland Garros, where the French Open is held annually.

Players compete in five medal events: women’s singles, men’s singles, women’s doubles, men’s doubles and mixed doubles.
