First Weather Alert: Wildfire Risk Remains High in NYC Area – 11/15/24

NEW YORK -A Red flag warning will be in effect throughout the Tri-State area on Saturday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

As a result, a smoky scent continues to fill the air ongoing forest fires across the region.

Due to the high winds forecast for Saturday, the threat of additional wildfires will increase and a red flag warning is in effect. Very little rain is expected over the next few days, further increasing the risk.

When a red flag warning is in effect, it is unsafe to use fire in outdoor settings, such as campsites.

There is also one Coastal Flood Advice for coastal areas of Monmouth, Ocean, Middlesex, Richmond, Brooklyn, Queens, Nassau and Fairfield counties until 2 p.m. Saturday. A flood of up to 2 meters is possible.

This is a consequence of Saturday night’s super moonwhich is the last supermoon of the year. According to NASA, a supermoon occurs when a full moon occurs because the moon is closest to Earth in its orbit.

First warning forecast for this weekend

Wildfire risk aside, we’re in for a very nice weekend with temperatures returning to the low and mid 60s.

Saturday will be changeable with mild sunshine.

A very slight chance of rain returns briefly to the area Monday morning. There will be a greater chance of much-needed rain on Thursday.
